Dodgers’ May to have Tommy John surgery

Dustin May got an MRI on Monday morning, and that was it. His season was over. May will have Tommy John surgery next week, leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers without one of baseball’s top young pitchers for the rest of their title defense.

“It’s a big blow,” manager Dave Roberts said before the team’s series opener against the Cubs was postponed because of inclement weather in the forecast. “But we’ve got a lot of talented players, and we just got to find a way to fill that void.”

The 23-year-old May was placed on the 10day injured list Sunday, a day after the righthande­r winced in pain on the mound and was forced to leave a start at Milwaukee.

ALOMAR OFF HALL BOARD >> Baseball’s Hall of Fame has accepted Roberto Alomar’s resignatio­n from the board of directors, chairman Jane Forbes Clark announced. Alomar, who was elected to the board in 2019, submitted a letter of resignatio­n on Saturday in the wake of an allegation of sexual misconduct.

TITANS PICK CHARGED >> Tennessee Titans fourthroun­d draft pick Rashad Weaver has been charged with simple assault following an incident in Pittsburgh last month. The complaint against Weaver, who played defensive end at the University of Pittsburgh, was filed April 30, a day before the Titans selected Weaver with the 135th overall pick in the draft.

AMAZON GETS ALL THURSDAY GAMES IN 2022 >> Amazon Prime Video will become the exclusive home of the NFL’s “Thursday Night Football” package a year earlier than originally anticipate­d. Amazon and the league announced Prime Video will take over the entire package in 2022, which will make it an 11-season deal through 2032. It was originally supposed to begin in 2023 when the league’s new media rights deals kick in.
