What was the outcome of other races in Lorain County including Lorain, Elyria and North Ridgeville?

The winning candidates emerged May 4 in contested primary races in communitie­s around Lorain County.

The Lorain County Board of Elections published unofficial results of the primary votes.

Lorain

In Lorain, there were four Republican candidates seeking three at-large seats on Lorain City Council.

The top vote getter was Lynne Christner, with 369 votes; Brian Jameson had 334 votes; and Jeremy Lighty netted 306 votes.

Republican at-large candidate Otis Jenkins had 174 votes, so he will not advance to the November race.

In November, the three winners will square off with Democratic at-large incumbents Tony Dimacchia, Mitch Fallis and Mary Springowsk­i.

Lorain’s Ward 1 and 2 seats also may be contested in November.

Brandon J. Wysocki has filed to run as an independen­t against Democratic incumbent Councilwom­an Beth Henley.

Wysocki’s candidacy petitions were not certified by the elections board as of May 4.

In Ward 2, Democratic candidate Victoria Kempton was unopposed in the primary, but Chas Lee, 1239 W. Second St., and Carl G. Nielsen, 217 W. Marina Parkway, have filed to run as independen­t candidates for the Ward 2 seat.

Their petitions were not certified by the elections board as of May 4.

Kyriece Brooks, of 3250 Camden Ave., has filed to run as an independen­t candidate for city treasurer to challenge incumbent Treasurer Terri Soto.

Elyria

In Elyria, Diane Simmons topped Leigh Ann Arroyo, 124-35, in the Democratic primary for the Ward 5 seat on Elyria City Council.

In the Elyria Ward 5 race, Brad Armstrong, has filed to run as an independen­t candidate on the November ballot.

Armstrong’s petitions are not certified, according to the elections board.

In Elyria Ward 1, Democrat Judith Keys will face a challenge by independen­t candidate Andrew C.G. Lipian, 614 Garford Ave.

Lipian’s petitions are not certified, according to the elections board.

Meanwhile, independen­t candidate Clifton Oliver, 436 Oxford Ave., has filed to run for one of four at-large council seats.

There are eight other at-large candidates: Democrats Thomas G. Callahan, Chad Schneider, Victor F. Stewart III and Phillip Tollett; and Republican­s Jeffrey Baxter, Larry Beckman, Garry Gibbs and Jeffrey Heathcote.

North Ridgeville

North Ridgeville had six Republican candidates seeking three at-large seats on City Council.

Jason Jacobs was leading with 1,005 votes; Georgia Awig had 762 votes; and Martin DeVries had 677 votes.

Contenders James R. Maleski had 634 votes; Steve Ali had 627 votes; and Christina Doran had 466 votes, according to the unofficial results.
