The Lorain Police Department made an arrest in the April 29 shooting death of 36-year-old Edwin J. Guzman, according to a news release.

Following an intense fiveday investigation, Detective Chris Colon obtained a murder warrant May 3 for Joshua Oquendo, 28, of Lorain, on charges related to the homicide of Guzman, also of Lorain.

Oquendo is in the Lorain County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

According to jail records, he also is facing felony charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing official business.

Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley praised the work of the Lorain Police Department on this case, along with another shooting investigation that resulted in an arrest in connection with an April 11 incident at The Cotton Club that left a 19-yearold man in critical condition.

“I know that our police are relentless and they are going to keep investigating until they find out who committed the crime,” Bradley said. “In one word, I would say they are relentless,” Bradley said.

Police arrested Oquendo on April 30.

He made an initial appearance May 3 in Lorain Municipal Court, jail records said.

At 5:45 p.m., April 29, Lorain police responded to the 2400 block of East 29th Street on a call of a traffic accident.

Arriving officers discovered a dark colored Nissan in a yard at the intersection of East 29th Street and Gary Avenue.

The car had struck several vehicles before coming to rest in the yard.

Guzman was found in the Nissan with several gunshot wounds.

An ambulance was called to the scene and transported Guzman to Mercy Health-Lorain Hospital, where he died, police said.
