Vanilla (Kamilla) Rush
Vanilla (Kamilla) Rush, 88, of Lorain, made her transition to Glory on April 23, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Vanilla was born August 8, 1932 in Wrightsville, GA and moved to Ohio in 1948 where she lived for 73 years. She was employed by the Lorain Board of Education where she retired after 30 years of service. Her greatest joy was her family and especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She encouraged everyone to have a relationship with Jesus. Vanilla was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and served in the Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, and Usher Board at her former church, Greater St. Matthew AME Church, Lorain. She was a current member of New Life Global Fellowship in Elyria where she was an esteemed Church Mother and member of the five-fold apostolic team and prayer team. She loved to cook, fish, travel and shop, especially for hats.
Vanilla will be sadly missed by her husband of 73 years, James Rush; sons, Perry Rush of Bay Area, Barry (Patricia) Rush of Spring Valley, IL and Gary Christopher Rush of Lorain; daughters, Deloris (Wade) Harris of Elyria, Vivian Rush of Lorain, Jennifer (Jerome) Brown of Oxford, MI, Wendy (Robert) Bruce, Gretchen (Isaac) Horton of Strongsville, OH; brother, Rev. Willie (Joyce) Guyton of Detroit, MI; sisters, Vernestine Drain of North Hills, CA, Maxine (Mathias) Dunlap of Lorain, Mavis Wiggins, Dr. Geraldine Carson and Pauline Guyton of Detroit, MI; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vanilla was preceded in death by her daughter Robin Rush, parents Odell Sr. and Paralee Guyton, grandson Shon Rush, granddaughter Tasha Yvonne Rush, brothers Ernest Guyton and Odell Guyton Jr. and sisters Eldra Beard and Avie Guyton.
Services will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 at Living Word Church-South Campus, 2002 E. 28th St., Lorain. Viewing will be from 10am to 11am with service immediately following.
