NUISANCE NO MORE
Seventh Court house razed; site could become park
One of Lorain’s nuisance houses finally is down, and city officials say residents who live near there are pleased.
On Sept. 1, a crew from Cleveland-based ProSupply Inc. razed the house at 907 Seventh Court.
“A lot of residents will be happy when that one is down,” said Max Upton, director of Building, Housing and Planning for the city of Lorain.
Upton said he conferred with several council members to identify the top three houses for demolition, and the 907 Seventh Court was at the top of the list.
Mayor Jack Bradley agreed that the white two-story house needed to be razed, he said.
“We’re happy it’s finally coming down,” Upton said.
A second dilapidated house on the property also was razed.
There are a lot of youngsters who live on the street, Upton said. Safety of the children and the neighborhood is a must, he said.
Once the site is cleared, Upton said he will explore a concept of a “pocket park,” which is a small park accessible to the public on vacant building lots.
He said he will look into getting concrete for the parcel to possibly put up a basketball court with a fence around it.
“Why not?” Upton asked. “There’s not a whole lot that can be done on that land.”
In the last month, city officials have vowed to target areas for demolition, including the February 2020 razing of the former El Patio restaurant on Grove Avenue.
In August, the city Demolition Board of Appeals condemned the connected buildings of 2925 and 2931 Grove Ave., which sit next to the former El Patio restaurant.
