The Matt Wilhelm watch list continues
Rocky River’s Tommy Bebie and Columbia’s Marco Cirigliano lead the pack of players in the running for the Matt Wilhelm player of the year award.
The Matt Wilhelm Award goes to The Morning Journal’s football player of the year.
A watch list for the top players in the area will be published each week leading up to the presentation of the Award.
This list is fluid and can change week to week. This list is in alphabetical order:
• RB Tommy Bebie, Sr., Rocky River: In three games has 350 yards on 34 carries — good for a 10.3 yards per carry average. On defense has 33 tackles and a sack. Has scored seven total touchdowns.
• RB Marco Cirigliano, So., Columbia: In three games has 557 yards on 46 carries — good for a 12.1 yards per carry average. Has scored 8 touchdowns
• RB Rocco Conti, Jr., Olmsted Falls: In a Week 3win over Norwalk, ran for 187 yards and a score. In Week 2 totaled over 200 all purpose yards in a loss.
• QB Sam DeTillio, Jr., Avon: In a Week 3 win over
Glenville was 10-11passing for 187 yards and four scores in the first half. Also ran for a score leading Avon to a bounce back win.
• QB Jeremy Dzik, Jr., Avon Lake: Did not play in Week 3. In two games as the starter for the Shoremen completed 67% of his
passes for 476yards and five scores.
• RB Levi Ellis, Jr., Elyria Catholic: In three games has 407 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Also has completed one pass for 81 yards and a touchdown. On defense leads the Panthers with 27 tackles.
• ATH Kenny Grobolsek, Sr., Brookside: Had 19 tackles from his safety spot in a Week 3loss to Chagrin Falls.
• RB Gideon Lampron, Sr., Keystone: The 2020 Matt Wilhelm Award winner, has run for 67 yards and recorded 12 tackles — with two for a loss — in 2021.
• QB Kyle Ransom, Sr., Firelands: In three games has rushed for 277 yards and four scores and thrown for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
• QB Konner Rodick, Jr., Keystone: Has thrown for 316 yards and five scores in 2021.
• WR Ryne Shackelford, Jr., Keystone: A legitimate D-I recruit has caught six passes for 105yards and two scores in 2021.
• WR Matthew Stuewe, Jr., Avon Lake: In three games has 21 catches for 309 yards and three scores.
• RB Torre Weatherspoon, Sr., Amherst: In three games has 387rushing yards on 47 carries. Also has four catches for 144 yards and 91 kickoff return yards — good enough for 622 allpurpose yards on offense.
