Lorain native to speak at NCNW luncheon

Economist Janelle Jones slated for Founder’s Day Luncheon Sept. 25 at LCCC

A Lorain native who is chief economist for the U.S. Department of Labor is keynote speaker on Sept. 25.

Jones has focused much of her research on labor markets, racial inequality, unemployme­nt, unions and job quality.

A former Lorain resident who is chief economist for the U.S. Department of Labor will be the keynote speaker at the Sept. 25 National Council of Negro Women’s 33rd annual Founder’s Day Luncheon.

Janelle Jones, a graduate of Lorain City Schools, will virtually address the luncheon at the Spitzer Conference Center on the campus of Lorain County Community College.

Before joining the Department of Labor, Jones served as managing director for policy and research at Groundwork Collaborat­ive.

While there, she helped launch and build Groundwork, an economic nonprofit whose goal is to bring opportunit­y and prosperity to all.

Jones also worked as an economic analyst at the Economic Policy Institute. There she focused on a variety of labor market topics within the Economic Policy Institute’s program on race, ethnicity and the economy.

She’s also worked as a research associate at the Center for Economic Policy Research and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Jones has focused much of her research on labor markets, racial inequality, unemployme­nt, unions and job quality.

The theme for this year’s luncheon is entreprene­urship; hence the title “Empowering Moguls: Act Like a Lady; Think Like a Boss.”

The group will honor local women described as role models and entreprene­urs.

Included in the group are Wendy Caldwell, Keandra N. Booker, Parris M. Smith, Tracey PaytonJohn­son, chef Shontae Jackson, Arneatha Shannon, Jessica Rogers, Kimyata Hawthorne and Marlayna Colon.
