Cuyahoga Community College announced it has received a 2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine.

This is Tri-C’s ninth consecutive year receiving the award, which recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, according to a news release.

“We are very proud to be a HEED Award recipient again,” Magda Gómez, the college’s executive director of diversity and inclusion, said in the release. “The conversations that began with the national events of last year have continued this year and have underscored the importance of being proactive as an organization regarding diversity, equity and inclusion.

“This award reflects TriC’s ongoing commitment to advancing those conversations and taking action.”

The college will be one of 100 recipients recognized in the November 2021 issue of Insight Into Diversity. Tri-C was one of seven Ohio schools — and the only community college in the state — to earn a 2021 HEED Award, the release stated.

The award process consists of a comprehensive application examining various aspects of campus diversity and inclusion, from leadership support through the recruitment and retention of students and employees.

“We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application and deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient,” Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of Insight Into Diversity, stated in the release. “Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”
