Crop Comments: Welcome to the Crop Midview. The Middies shocked everyone in Week 6with a 24-21win over Avon Lake, to vault from a non-watch list team to the No. 10spot. Quarterback Marc Reed and receiver Connor Awad have been the area’s best duo through the air this season, and all of the sudden they have got Midview in the thick of the Southwestern Conference title race heading into Week 7. … The biggest dropper this week is obviously Avon Lake. The Shoremen reached new heights in Week 4when they beat Avon but have dropped two straight since. Avon Lake would need a miracle to sneak back into the conference title race, but right now that’s probably the least of head coach Matt Kostelnik’s worries. With a game against Olmsted Falls still on the schedule, the Shoremen have three weeks to figure things out before the playoffs start. … After dropping in the last Crop, both Avon and Keystone return to their previous spots. The Eagles beat up on North Ridgeville in another league win, where quarterback Sam DeTillio was nearly perfect. The junior threw more touchdowns (4) than he did incompletions (2) in the win. The Wildcats won their 16th consecutive Lorain County League game over Firelands behind a virtuoso performance from Gideon Lampron. The defending Matt Wilhelm Award winner ran for two scores and had the game-changing interception in the third quarter of the win. Firelands drops two spots with the loss, but the Falcons are very much a Crop-worthy team through six weeks. … North Olmsted, Rocky River and Elyria Catholic clock in as the Great Lakes Conference’s representatives. The Pirates ran through Bay, 41-10, behind the Bebie brothers — Johnny and Tommy — staying perfect in their division. North Olmsted continued to impress with their fifth win of the year. The Eagles’ move from the SWC to the GLC has been very successful so far. Elyria Catholic had its game against Fariview canceled due to a positive COVID-19test in the Warriors program and instead traveled to Mineral Ridge to play Cardinal Mooney. The Panthers picked up a good win in the process. … Elyria becomes the first team top drop completely out of the Crop since Week 3 with their third straight loss. The Pioneers now join the Watch List alongside Wellington, Bay and North Ridgeville. Note: records as of Sept. 25
