Phyllis A. Szabo (nee Mihalko), 79 of Lorain died peacefully Friday November 26, 2021 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lorain on June 3, 1942 to Alex and Emma Mihalko (nee Brindza) and remained a resident of Lorain her entire life. She was a 1960 graduate of Lorain High.

She was married to her beloved husband Nicholas H Szabo for 52 years before his death in 2013. They were both active members of St Nicholas Byzantine church in Lorain, where they volunteere­d in the church kitchen for many years baking holiday rolls, making pierogi and

cabbage rolls and it brought them great pleasure to do so. She was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union. She enjoyed watching and following Ohio Sports teams.

She is survived by her daughters: Monica F Cox(and her late husband Bud), Emmalynn A Ibrahim (Osama); son, David A Szabo; daughter in law, Lisa; brother, Robert Mihalko (Cheri); grandchild­ren: Nicholas Flaherty ( Catherine), Joseph Flaherty, Alex Szabo, Alan Szabo (Kat), Anna Kestner (Adam) , Matt Garza( Lori Anne)and Nick Garza( Sidney) and eight great grandchild­ren.

The family will receive friends Thursday December 2, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W 40th St, Lorain. The Divine Liturgy will be held Thursday at 11:00 am in the church with Very Rev Father Andrew Nagrant presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. The family invites all attendees to join them for lunch back at the church.
