The city of Westlake’s Recreation Department operates the Westlake Recreation Center, Westlake Aquatic Center and Meadowood Golf Course.

There also is an abundance of parks in Westlake including Recreation Center Park, Bradley Nature Park, Clague Park, Roman Park and Tri-City Park.

“Our parks include a wide variety of amenities such as athletic fields, playgrounds, walking trails, tennis courts, pickleball courts, pavilions, picnic areas, fishing ponds, a sledding hill and more,” said Recreation Director Paula Horner.

The Recreation Center

The Recreation Center, located at 28955 Hilliard Blvd., offers a wide range of amenities, including a large fitness center, basketball courts, an indoor track, a “Tot Room” for childcare, a variety of community meeting spaces available for rental, locker rooms with saunas, an indoor aquatic center complete with a lap pool, diving well, lazy river, waterslides and a zero depth entry pool with aquatic play features.

There is a wide variety of programs and activities offered throughout the year at the Recreation Center, Horner said.

It offers programs such as youth and adult basketball, volleyball, indoor pickleball, group exercise programs, personal training, learn to swim and aquatic exercise classes, day camps, dance classes and more, she said.

Westlake Aquatic Center

The Westlake Aquatic Center and Peterson Pool, located at Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard, features five bodies of water including Peterson Pool — a lap pool with a traditional diving board, a climbing wall and a cove area with seats and jets.

There also is a slide plunge pool that features two speed waterslides and a 6,600-square-foot lazy river which includes both passive pathways and adventurous pathways complete with water cannons and dumping buckets.

There is an activity pool which ranges from zero depth to three feet and features a large interactive water feature with multiple levels and slides.

Lastly, there is the splash pad which encourages interactive play, Horner said.

The Aquatic Center also features a large pool deck with shade structures and a pavilion.

The pool house includes a concession stand and locker room facilities.

A wide variety of programs and events also are offered at the Aquatic Center during the summer months.

Meadowood Golf Course

The Meadowood Golf Course, 29800 Center Ridge Road, is a public course that includes an 18-hole executive course and five holes of regulation play.

Youth golf lessons and leagues are run at Meadowood throughout the summer.

A clubhouse is available yearround for rental.

Currently, there are conceptual plans being reviewed for potential improvements of this facility, Horner said.

Special events

The Recreation Department also offers several special events annually including holiday pool parties, dive-In movies, egg hunts, an annual fishing derby, cardboard boat races, Father Daughter Dance, July 4 celebration, including parade and fireworks, summer concert series, family campout, Christmas in July, health and safety fair, Celebrate Westlake, Breakfast with Santa and more.

Upcoming additions

“An upcoming addition to the exceptional facilities available within the city of Westlake, will be the new Clague Park Playground,” Horner said.

The playground will include a mounded area with elevated access to various slides and play structures as well as poured rubber surfacing, she said.

There also will be play features such as swings, ziplines, percussion play elements and more, Horner said.

The playground was designed to be highly accessible, for use by individuals of all abilities, and will have a positive impact on the community, Horner said.
