Beatrice Porter (nee: Sagraves), 91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, December 23, 2021, after a full and meaningful life. She was born May 14, 1930, in Johns Run, Kentucky. At the age of 20, Beatrice left Kentucky and moved to Lorain. She had made her home in Amherst for the last sixty-six years. Beatrice loved being a homemaker, caring for her family. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst. A former member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and North Lake Missionary Baptist Church. Wherever she attended she was an active member often teaching Sunday School. Survivors include her son, John M.(Teresa) Porter of Wakeman; six grandchild­ren; one great granddaugh­ter; her sister, Juney Sturgil of Grayson, KY; and son in law, Alan Schafer of Grafton. She was preceded in death on March 23, 2002, by her husband of fifty-two years, Tarvin Porter; her children, Tarvin Porter, II, Donna Sue Schafer and Joan Seiders; by her siblings, Elmer Sagraves, Delmer Sagraves, Beecher Sagraves and Jean McDavid; as well as by her parents, Merdia and Lucinda Sagraves (nee: Stephens). Friends may call Wednesday, Dec 29, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, the 30th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
