William “Bill” Joseph Vereb, 67 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at St. John Westshore Hospital in Westlake, following a lengthy battle with diabetes. He was born May 2, 1954, in Lorain, graduating from Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst with the class of 1972. While in high school, Bill was the star on his football team and will soon be inducted into the Lorain County Hall of Fame. Bill owned and operated Vereb Concrete. He was previously employed at Elyria Foundry. Bill was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Lorain. Bill loved sports, especially football and baseball. His hobbies included hunting, cooking and tending to his yard. Bill’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his life companion, Cindy Yanke; his daughter, Amy Vereb of Columbus, Oh; his mother, Loretta Vereb (nee: Toth); his sister, Linda Vereb of Lorain; and brother, Joseph (Tracy) Vereb, Jr. of Monticello, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Vereb, Sr. Friends may call Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church; 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, will officiate.
