Joseph Allen Shuster

-

YOU ARE NOT A DROP IN THE OCEAN. YOU ARE THE ENTIRE OCEAN, IN A DROP.

On December 26, 2021 our beloved Joe Shuster went home to be with our Lord. He is now reunited with his fur baby Maui.

Joseph Allen Shuster was born to James and Carol Shuster on December 18, 1976, joining an amazing sister Christine, and two incredible older brothers Tony and Matthew. Another wonderful brother, Nick, followed a few years later completing this tight-knit family.

Joseph grew up in Lorain, Ohio, and attended Lorain High School. In high school Joe was actively involved in JROTC and was the first able to earn the rank of commanding officer and was also a part of the drill team. Following graduation in 1995, he joined the Navy and served as a Cryptologic Technician Collection First Class. He served actively through October 2001, living in different parts of the United States – his favorite location being Hawaii. He remained in the Navy as a Reservist and enrolled full time at The Ohio State University. He majored in Construction Management with a minor in Psychology. During his time at OSU, he was active in Cheerleading and went with the football team to earn a national championship in 2002.

Joe would say that family was the most important thing to him. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time his parents, hanging with his brothers and sisters, or teaching his nieces and nephews new things. Saturdays he could be found with the family rooting for OSU football and Sunday was for the Cleveland Browns.

Joe also loved being on the water and boating. His knowledge of boating and water was astounding. He could navigate the roughest waters without a second thought. One might not even know how bad the waves were until he got you safely back to shore. He would tell you that the water brought him a sense of peace and freedom. Three years ago, he bought a boat JC and Cubs, so that he could do what he loved all the time with the people that he loved. Whether it was a quick trip out or a trip to the island Joe made sure everyone was having a good time and learned to love the water the way he did. Joe would always say his favorite times were taking his parents fishing and giving his mom a hard time about not getting her own fish off the line.

To know Joe, was to know the kindest heart that walked this earth. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family, his friends, or someone in need. His smile would light up the darkest room. His hugs would make you feel that everything was going to be all right. His laugh was infectious, and it

was well known not to sit by him at serious events. His presence would bring a sense of calm and love to all that were lucky enough to engage with him.

He is survived by his parents James and Carol Shuster (Lorain), His brothers Tony Shuster (Lorain), Matthew (Kelly) Shuster (Georgia), Nick (Makayla) Shuster (Columbus), and his sister Christine Shuster Mahon (Lorain), nieces & nephews: Gabrielle, Alexandra, Hailey, Jameson, Brandon,

Madison, Carissa, Trevor & Tristan; great nephew Gavin and aunts, uncles, and cousins (who are more like siblings).

The family will receive friends on Sunday January 2, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday January 3, 2022 at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454
