John Palagyi

-

John Palagyi, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2021, at his home in South Amherst.

John grew up on Dunton Road in Lorain and was a 1951 graduate of Clearview High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps for 2 years as a firefighter stationed in Florida and Puerto Rico during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he headed west to California for work, visiting family back in Ohio when he could. On one such occasion, his sister Anna’s wedding, he met a woman named Mary Ann DiLuciano, but everyone called her Nina. The two wed in 1960 and were married for 60 years.

John worked as a field engineer at NCR for over 35 years and was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Parish in Lorain. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in both his own garden and on the golf course with friends, family, and grandchildren. An avid Cleveland Indians fan, he could be found at Jacobs Field throughout the heyday of the 90s and he passed that love on to his grandchildren. His greatest joy, late in life, was watching his great grandchildren play. Fiercely independent and always active, John helped instill a sense of work ethic and purpose in his entire family.

He is survived by his son, John (Karen Carr) Palagyi Jr. of Hebron, KY; daughter, Domenica (Steve) McKinney of South Amherst, OH; sisters, Rosemary Rigo and Anna Kish, both of Lorain; brother, Joseph of Sheffield Lake;

grandchildren, Erika (Tony) Guth (nee McKinney), Steven (Lindsey) McKinney, Aaron (Theresa) McKinney, Kelly Carr, and Will Carr; great grandchildren, Milan, Nina, Anna, Rose, Lorelei, Evan, and Jude, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina (nee DiLuciano); his brothers, George Palagyi and Steve Vitai; infant son, Steven Domenic; infant great-grandson, Fritz McKinney Guth; and his parents, Steve and Rose (nee Toth).

John’s family will receive family and friends at ReidyScanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.
