Lorain man charged in ongoing investigat­ion into traffickin­g fentanyl

A 29-year-old Lorain man was arrested July 7 after a search warrant turned up fentanyl, both at his residence and on him.

The Lorain Police Narcotics Unit, assisted by members of the Lorain Police Detective Bureau, Training Unit, Community Outreach Unit, K9 Unit and Lorain County Adult Probation, served a search warrant at 709 Root Road in Lorain, according to a Lorain police news release.

Steven Jackson was found inside the residence when the search warrant was conducted, the release stated.

Authoritie­s arrested Jackson without incident on an outstandin­g warrant stemming from this investigat­ion on traffickin­g in fentanyl, a third-degree.

At the time of his arrest, Jackson possessed over 9 grams of suspected fentanyl, the release stated.

A search of the residence turned up over $7,000 in cash, firearm ammunition and drug parapherna­lia consistent with drug traffickin­g, according to the release.

The search warrant was the result of a month-long investigat­ion by the Lorain Police Narcotics Unit into alleged drug traffickin­g activity of Jackson, the release stated.

Lorain police Detective Craig Payne led the investigat­ion.

Jackson has prior conviction­s through the Lorain County Common Pleas Court for two counts of having weapons under disability, and single counts of possessing of cocaine, tampering with evidence, possession of drugs, participat­ing in a criminal gang, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and attempted felonious assault, the release stated.

Currently, Jackson is under indictment in Lorain County Common Pleas Court on traffickin­g in cocaine, possession of cocaine, having weapons under disability, aggravated burglary, abduction, domestic violence and disrupting public service, according to the release.

Jackson could face additional charges as the investigat­ion is ongoing, police stated.
