Acrisure buys rights to Steelers’ stadium name

The Pittsburgh Steelers have run out of Heinz. And they’re not running to the store to grab more.

The Steelers announced that the organizati­on has ended its longtime partnershi­p with the formerly Pittsburgh-based food company, which had served as the title sponsor for the stadium on the city’s North Shore since it opened in 2001.

The 68,400-seat venue will be known as Acrisure Stadium after the Steelers reached a 15year sponsorshi­p agreement with the Michigan-based financial tech company. Financial details were not disclosed.

ON PGA-LIV DISPUTE » The dispute between the PGA Tour and the Saudifunde­d LIV Golf series now has the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice, according to the Wall Street Journal, and the PGA Tour said it was confident it would prevail. The Journal said players’ agents have received inquiries from the Justice Department’s antitrust division that involve PGA Tour regulation­s on competing events and the tour suspending players in recent months for playing in LIV Golf events. The Journal cited a person familiar with the inquiries.

RAYS’ FRANCO OUT 5 TO

8 WEEKS » Rays shortstop Wander Franco will have surgery July 12 on his right wrist. Franco has a hamate injury. He left a 5-4 loss July 9 at Cincinnati after fouling off a 100.2 mph Hunter Greene pitch before striking out. Manager Kevin Cash said that the 21-year-old Franco will be sidelined for five to eight weeks.

EX-MICHIGAN COACH DIES

Gary Moeller, who succeeded Bo Schembechl­er as Michigan’s coach and later led the Detroit Lions as interim coach, died July 11. He was 81. The University of Michigan announced his death, and no cause was provided. Moeller was promoted from offensive coordinato­r to lead the Wolverines’ program in 1990 and was 44-13-3 over five seasons.
