During the July 12, meeting of the Avon Lake City Schools
Board of Education, members voted to accept the resignation of member
Pam Ohradzansky, effective immediately, according to a news release from the school district.
Ohradzansky has served on the board for the past 18 years.
She was first appointed in June 2004, then ran for an unexpired term in 2006, and ran for her first full four-year term in 2007.
Her current term expires Dec. 31, 2023.
“I’ve decided to resign from the school board because I believe the timing is right for me,” Ohradzansky said, in the release. “I am confident that there is someone waiting in the wings who is as passionate about public education as I am, who is ready and willing to dedicate themselves to the Avon Lake City Schools the way I have for the past 18 years.
“This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now, but it was important to me to wait until I was comfortable that we had gotten through many of the challenges that all school districts faced during the last couple of years.”
Jim Stobe, president of Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education, noted the board will miss Ohradzansky’s contributions as a member.
“Pam’s involvement in our local community, combined with raising two Avon Lake graduates, gave her a very balanced perspective when we dealt with challenging issues that required thoughtful decisionmaking,” Stobe said, in the release. “Pam has played a lot of roles for the board including board vice president, representative to the JVS and representative to the health care committee.
“But most importantly, we will miss Pam’s kindness, compassion for helping others and thoughtfulness.”
Reflecting on her tenure with the school district, Ohradzansky listed the hiring of Superintendent Bob Scott as one of the greatest accomplishments in her 18 years on the board.
She said the success of the district is due to his “remarkable leadership and vision.”
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve on the Avon Lake Board of Education,” Ohradzansky said. “I have had the opportunity to meet the most amazing leaders, teachers, students and families who care deeply about public education.
The school board will begin the process of filling the seat immediately, according to the release.
Deadline for applications is July 28.
Interviews will begin the week of Aug. 1. The new board member will be appointed at its regular meeting Aug. 9, the release stated.
