Talk with oncologist to discuss breast cancer
Mercy Health — Lorain has announced it will host an evening of education and conversation with Dr. Mita Patel, a breast surgical oncologist.
340K new cases
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States, with nearly 340,000 new cases of breast cancer expected to be diagnosed this year alone, according to a news release from Mercy Health — Lorain.
Women often have a leading role in their family’s health care, but as caregivers, they often put others first instead of prioritizing their own health, the release said.
Women prioritize own health
The goal of this event is to empower women to make their health a priority and help them understand what steps they can take to improve their health as well as the care options available for those facing a cancer diagnosis, according to the release.
Latest advancements
Patel will discuss breast health along with the latest advancements in treating breast cancer, the release said.
Following her presentation, those in attendance will be able to actively participate in a question-andanswer session with the physician, according to the release.
Staff from the Mercy Health — Lorain Hospital Women’s Center also will be on hand to offer a variety of educational materials, the release said.
The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 17, in Ross Conference Rooms 1 and 2 at Mercy Health — Lorain Hospital, 3700 Kolbe Road in Lorain.
Coronavirus safety measures will be in place, and masking is required, according to the release.
