Holiday-themed program at James A. Garfield National Historic Site planned
‘A Winter Evening at Lawnfield with Mrs. Lucretia Garfield’ set for Dec. 10
James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor recently announced plans for a special holiday-themed program that will take place at 6 p.m., Dec. 10.
“A Winter Evening at Lawnfield with Mrs. Lucretia Garfield” will be held in the site’s visitor center auditorium. Tickets are required and are now on sale for $15 on Eventbrite.com.
Former First Lady Lucretia Rudolph Garfield, portrayed by Debbie Weinkamer, will be on hand for an intimate evening of reminiscing about the Garfield family’s most cherished winter and holiday memories and traditions, according to a news release.
These memories will be from both before and after the death of James A. Garfield, who was assassinated in 1881 after just a few months as the 20th president of the United States.
The event will include live music, light refreshments and an evening tour of the Garfield home. It is supported and assisted by The James A. Garfield Alliance, the non-profit partner of the Garfield National Historic Site.
“We’re excited to host this program again after pandemic-related cancellations the past two years,” Site Manager Todd Arrington stated in the release. “This time of year is a favorite for many, and the Garfield property — nicknamed ‘Lawnfield’ during Garfield’s 1880 presidential campaign — is really beautiful in this late fall/early winter period.”
The Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.
