Donald Glynn

Donald W. (Dan) Glynn, aged 84, of Vermilion, died peacefully October 28, 2022 after a long illness at Huntington Woods Care and Rehabilitation Center. Son of Donald William and Marjorie Shaw Glynn, he was born in Cleveland, OH. Dan spent his formative years in Cleveland Heights, graduating from Shaw High School in 1956. He attended Bowling Green State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1960 and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. As a junior, Dan served as Class President and met his future wife, Patricia, whom he married in 1961, the day before her graduation. Dan worked for the Ford Motor Company in both Dearborn, MI and Lorain, OH as a Quality Control Engineer for 34 years, with much of his effort focused on Econoline assembly. Despite being a salaried manager, Dan continually advocated for fair and honest management at the Lorain plant, seeing this as critical to quality truly being “Job 1.” Dan retired in 1994, and being an avid camper, reader, fisherman and explorer, he enjoyed traveling throughout the country with Pat and spending time with family, friends, and their constant Labrador retriever companions, Sunny, Dewey, Phoebe and Hattie. He was keenly proud of his three sons and had a passion for nature and a true curiosity about life. He prided himself on being a student of human biology and astronomy. He shared his wonderful sense of humor, often being referred to as a “pun-master.” Dan also frequented Toastmasters International meetings, perfecting his many public lectures which focused on the benefits of deep breathing. Among his many hobbies and interests, Dan loved both listening to and playing music, on his trumpet. During his college summer breaks, he joined a small band which entertained many visitors to the Lake Erie Islands. He also took great pride in his home and property, completing many major renovations as a consummate “DIYer.” Dan is survived by wife Patricia (Hanawalt), brothers William (Cindy) Glynn and Robert (Susan) Glynn, sister Kathleen (David) Herrewig and sons Eric (Kim) Price-Glynn of West Hartford, CT, Patrick (Lynn) Glynn of Tampa, FL, Michael (Lisa) Glynn of South Lyon, MI, and grandchildren: Ashley, Leah, Lucas, Ava, Lillian and Gavin. Dan is proceded in death by his older brother Dr. David Glynn of Rocky River OH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Nature Conservancy, or a charity of your choice. The family will hold a private event to honor our dear loved one next summer.
