Amherst boys win D-I sectional title

The Amherst boys bowling team won the Division I sectional tournament Feb. 19 at AMF Lanes in North Ridgeville.

The Comets had a score of 4,281 en route to the team title. Avon Lake was the sectional runner-up with a 4,149. North Ridgeville earned the final qualifying district spot (3,927).

The Comets had three bowlers in the top 10 — Will Bobek (fourth, 656), JP Gregor (fifth, 650) and Grant Taylor (10th, 617).

Avon Lake’s top bowler was Luke Slogar, third with a 692.

Brenton Dill of Avon was the sectional runnerup with a 728 that included a high score of 278. North Olmsted Jason Beets (615) also qualified for district.

On the girls side in D-I, Amherst (3,534), North Olmsted (3,160) and Westlake (2,986) were 1-2-3 in the team standings to sectional champ Magnificat.

The Comets’ Allison Taylor was the sectional champ with a 684 and high scores of 256 and 254.

Avon’s Kilee Falish was third with a 582. North Ridgeville’s Josephine Cehelnik was fourth with a 563.

At the D-II tournament at AMF Lanes, the Clearview boys were the sectional runner-up with a 4,179. The Clippers’ top bowler was Logan Klamer, who was third with a 699 and games of 216, 227 and 256.

Wellington’s Landon Davison (575) and Columbia’s Colin Gilligan (570) were individual district qualifiers.

Three area girls teams advanced to district. Friends (3,342) was second, Brookside (3,134) third and Wellington (2918) fourth.

Friends’ Katie Smith (599) was third, Wellington’s Whitney KIrschner (584) placed fourth and Firelands’ Mandy Dewitt (521) was seventh.

Open Door’s Gabriella Riba (535) was sixth and an individual qualifier.
