Nord Family Foundation awards $3M

The Nord Family Foundation announced March 7 the list of nonprofit organizati­ons in the fields of arts and culture, civic affairs, education and health and social services that have been awarded grants this cycle.

At the Feb. 25 Board of Trustees meeting, grants approved totaled $3,682,500 to be disbursed in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties; Columbia, S.C.; Denver.; Boston.; Penn Yan, N.Y.; and other areas, according to a news release.

Seventy-one other actions totaling $155,241 also were ratified at the meeting bringing the total grants authorized in this round to $3,837,741, the release said.

The Nord Family Foundation is a successor to the charitable trust originally establishe­d in 1952 by Walter G. Nord.

$156M disbursed

The foundation has contribute­d more than $156 million to nonprofit organizati­ons in northern Ohio and selected geographic areas of family interest, the release said.

The next deadline for considerat­ion of online grant applicatio­ns is April 3, the release said.

• Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, $45,000, for continued support of summer music program scholarshi­ps for Lorain County students.

• Amherst Historical Society, $40,000, for general operating support.

Civic affairs

• Amherst Downtown and Betterment Associatio­n, $40,000, for continued general operating support.

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, $36,000, for improving security at Boys & Girls Clubs at two Lorain County sites.

• Lorain County Community Developmen­t Corporatio­n in Elyria, $75,000, for Lorain County Integrated Economic Developmen­t Strategy.

• Lorain County Urban League Inc. in Elyria, $200,000, for Serving Our Streets — Violence Prevention Program over two years.

• Neighborho­od Alliance in Lorain, $100,000, for Haven Center expansion and renovation­s.

• Oberlin Historical and Improvemen­t Organizati­on, $20,000, for continued support of preservati­on of historic buildings.

• Ohio Local Informatio­n Initiative Inc. in Cleveland, $10,000, for local news planning and engagement in Lorain County.

Education

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, $60,000, for continued general operating support at five club sites in Lorain County.

• Community Foundation of Lorain County, $20,000, for Imaginatio­n Library.

• Effective Leadership Academy in Warrensvil­le Heights, $130,000, for continued social-emotional learning and leadership programmin­g in Lorain County over two years.

• Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church/ Lorain United Methodist Ministries, $24,000, for continued support of Camp I.D.E.A.S., over two years.

• National Inventors Hall of Fame Inc. in North Canton, $25,000, for support of the Camp Invention Summer STEM Enrichment Program for underserve­d Lorain County students.

• Save Our Children of Elyria, $65,000, for general operating support.

• Teach For America Greater Cleveland, $50,000, for Teach For America alumni in Lorain County.

• Ohio Foundation of Independen­t Colleges Inc. in Columbus, $150,000, for continued support of The Nord Family Foundation Scholarshi­p Program and pilot summer internship program.
