The Amherst Historical Society is welcoming back guests for its second annual Easter “Egg” stravaganza community event April 1.

It will take place at two venues: Amherst Historical Society, 113 S Lake St., and at The Sandstone Village, 763 Milan Ave.

Guests can enjoy several activities that are scheduled, said Sandy Kaiser, director of the Amherst Historical Society.

Fundraiser

“This is one of our bigger fundraising events that helps get the ball rolling for the Society,” Kaiser said.

The idea was born out of a planning session at the Historical Society in 2021 as it was looking for a fun way to bring the community back after the coronavirus pandemic shutdowns, she said.

“We wanted something that would help both the Society and the community,” Kaiser said. “Between all the different groups that come together, it’s just amazing.”

Activities for all ages

Guests also can look forward to a petting zoo, face painting, balloon arts, crafts, basket raffle, trivia, a bake sale, contests, and of course, photos with the Easter Bunny.

“The photos with the

Easter Bunny are completely free and are open to everyone, but donations are greatly appreciated,” Kaiser said.

The Sandstone Village will open for tours with volunteer actors in each station telling tales of the village and the history of Amherst.

Stories with Valerie Farschman

Amherstonian Valerie Farschman, former theater director for Amherst Exempted Village Schools, will bring stories of the village to life in the old chapel, Kaiser said.

“It is just a really great day for everyone to enjoy,” she said. “We have lots of different fun events going on in addition to the scavenger hunt for kids as well, and it’s truly great.”

The event will take place from 1-4 p.m.

No registration is required and the event is free and open to all ages.
