COACHES OF THE YEAR Dan Juliani, Columbia and Scott Sedlick, Avon Lake

This was an agonizing decision, and nothing I used as a tiebreaker really gave one a clear edge over the other. Juliani and Sedlick have been in their posts the last four years and were led by their superb senior classes with whom they started in their first years on the job. Both men were named Lorain County coaches of the year for their respective divisions and won their schools’ first conference titles in nearly or over 20years (22for Columbia, 18for Avon Lake). Juliani and Sedlick qualified at least eight or more wrestlers for their respective district tournaments along with winning their conference titles, sectional championships, and both had at least one state qualifier. Each man took their programs from the bottom of their leagues and rose up to the top behind their first crop of wrestlers. If there was a year to split the honor between two well-deserving candidates, this year would be the one.
