The Wellington Exempted Village School District Board of Education will begin searching for a new superintendent, according to a news release.

Superintendent Edward Weber, who has been with Wellington Schools since December 2016, has announced his retirement, the release said.

His retirement will be effective Aug. 1.

“During his time in Wellington, Mr. Weber has been instrumental in the steady success of our district,” said Ayers Ratliff, president of the Wellington Schools Board of Education, in the release. “His dedicated focus on improving academics and the overall student experience leaves a lasting impact.”

Wellington has improved in academics during Weber’s tenure.

The district’s report card rating has improved, resulting in an overall rating of 3.5 in 2023, according to the release.

Other academic programs brought to the district include Project Lead the Way curriculum at McCormick Middle School, Advanced Placement courses at the high school and a robust college planning process.

Guided by the newly adopted Strategic Plan, Wellington continues to track progress in key goal areas, according to the release.

“I have been blessed to see remarkable growth and positive change within our district,” said Weber in the release. “These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our outstanding staff, students and parents.”

The school board has enlisted the Ohio School Board Association to aid in the search for a new leader.

During this process, community members and staff will be invited to participate and provide input, the release said.

“I am confident the board will identify a candidate who shares our vision for continued improvement and will guide our district to even greater heights,” Weber said. “I look forward to witnessing the ongoing success of our school district in the years to come.”
