Manning recognized by Ohio elections group
State Sen. Nathan Manning, R-North Ridgeville, received the Robert E. Hughes Memorial Award from the Ohio Association of Election Officials at their Winter Conference, according to a news release.
The Robert E. Hughes Memorial Award is given each year to one Republican state legislator who has demonstrated significant efforts to improve elections in the state of Ohio, the release said.
The Ohio Association of Election Officials is a professional organization representing the members and employees of Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections, their directors and deputy directors.
Year-round, the organization develops and implements educational programs and training courses to members, and provides feedback on pending legislation affecting their membership, according to the release.
“This award, from our bipartisan association, was in recognition of his continued willingness to listen to our association’s concerns,” said Paul Adams, president of the Ohio Association of Election Officials and Director of the Lorain County Board of Elections, in the release. “In particular, we recognized his vote against holding an August special election in 2023.
“As a Lorain County resident, it is of special significance this award was given to our state senator.”
“Nathan Manning was an easy choice for the (Ohio Association of Election Officials) annual Robert E. Hughes Memorial Award,” said Marilyn Jacobcik, chair of the Lorain County Board of Elections, in the release. “He continually seeks our opinion on pending legislation to arrive at solutions that are workable for Ohio’s Election Officials while balancing goals that the legislature hopes to reach.
“He is accessible and understands the process well enough that we can usually find common ground quickly.”
In addition to Manning’s recognition, the Ohio Association of Election Officials also awarded Sen. Bill DeMora with the Jack Wolfe Memorial Award, given annually to a Democratic state legislator, for his involvement in electoral legislation, the release said.
Both awards recognize individuals who exhibit a strong commitment to voters and election officials, and to ensuring that Ohio continues to have free, fair and honest elections, the release said.
