Lorain man arrested in alleged assault
A Lorain man turned himself in to the Lorain Police Department on warrants that were issued for his arrest last year following an alleged assault on his former girlfriend.
On Feb. 5, Da’Shawn Thompson, 21, was arrested on felony charges of strangulation, aggravated burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle and abduction and a misdemeanor charge of assault, according to a Lorain police report and Lorain County jail records.
The charges were the result of an altercation Sept. 19, 2023, when Thompson is alleged to have entered the woman’s backdoor, which she forgot to lock, the police report stated.
The woman was getting ready to go to sleep when Thompson entered her home, according to the report.
After the woman told Thompson to leave, he attacked and caused several scratch marks on various places of her body, the report stated.
The two fought and Thompson grabbed the woman’s hood of her sweater and choked her with it while she struggled to breath, according to the report.
Thompson then took her car keys and telephone, grabbed her ankle and dragged her down the stairs of her apartment where she struck her head on each step of the complex before he forced her to her vehicle, the report stated.
He then drove her to the father of the woman’s children’s house on West 13th Street in an attempt for Thompson to fight the other man, the report stated.
The other man was in the shower and unaware the two were at his home.
Thompson then drove the woman back to her residence and left, the report stated.
Even though the scratches were minor, the victim was treated by LifeCare Ambulance paramedics due to the severity of the situation, the report stated.
Thompson is in the Lorain County Jail on a $55,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Lorain Municipal Court on Feb. 14.
