Elijah Otero, 22, of North Olmsted, is facing a charge of felonious assault as the result of the investigation into the altercation, according to a news release from North Olmsted Police.
At approximately 5:53 p.m., North Olmsted Police received an emergency 9-1-1 call from a woman reporting she witnessed an altercation between two men in separate vehicles at the Speedway gas station located at the intersection of Lorain Road and Brookpark Road.
The caller told police the males were threatening to shoot each other.
The vehicles then left traveling westbound on Lorain Road, the release stated. A few minutes later, a North Olmsted officer reported hearing yelling and two gun shots in the area of Lorain Road near the McDonald’s restaurant, across the street from the police department.
A second North Olmsted officer located the victim’s vehicle at the Marathon at Lorain and Porter roads with two bullet holes in it, the release noted.
The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.
The other involved vehicle was located at a residence on Porter Road where Otero was taken into custody without incident, the release stated.
Officers recovered a handgun that was used in the incident as well, the release stated.
“The investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident between the victim and Otero’s brother,” the release also noted.
Otero is being held at the North Olmsted Jail awaiting an arraignment hearing.
Additional charges against Otero may be forthcoming when the case is presented to the grand jury, the release stated.
