Naaman Edwin Torres, 70, of Elyria, OH died February 17, 2024 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He had struggled with leukemia for 20 years and died from a massive stroke while fighting his ninth leukemia battle.

Mr. Torres was born in Lorain, Ohio on November 28, 1953, and lived in Lorain County for most of his life. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1972 and also attended LCCC, studying electrical engineerin­g technology. He spent three years, from 1972 to 1975, in the U.S. Army.

He was employed by US Steel for 37 years, retiring in 2010 and was a past appointed officer of U.S.W.A. and chairman of the EAP committee. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1988.

After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Rincon, Puerto Rico. For many years during winters there, he enjoyed book club meetings, Latin dance, exercise and spin classes, bike riding the hills, visiting relatives, walking the beach, and swimming. He was known for swimming with the turtles while snorkeling the coral reef. He attended the Caribbean Church without Walls in Rincon.

Locally, he was a member of Silver Wheels bike club, traveling with them to bicycle in many areas. He and his wife Marilyn enjoyed traveling nationally and abroad, bicycling in many states, as well as in Italy, France, and Canada, also traveling with the YMCA to Iceland.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marilyn Mae (nee Miller) formerly known as teacher, Ms. Summers, surviving sons Thomas Torres (Katina) of Orville, OH, and Randy Torres of Elyria, OH, brothers William, Dennis, and Hiram of Lorain, OH, Edgar of Michigan, sisters, Myrna of Vermillion, OH, Ivette, and Carmin Aviles of Aguada, PR, nine grandchild­ren, nine great grandchild­ren, one greatgreat granddaugh­ter, Silky the cat, and chosen daughters, Melissa Guilianell­i of Avon, OH and Lydia Badillo of Añasco, PR.

He was preceded in death by daughter Angie Marie, stillborn son Eddie, son Edwin Torres, Jr., father Primitivo Torres, mother Digna, stepmother Raquel, and grandson Corey.

Services will be held this April or May at Reichlin Roberts Bollinger Funeral Home in Elyria, OH. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH with military honors.
