An Elyria man is facing several charges stemming from a brief pursuit and possessing drugs, according to a news release from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyshawn Capers,

27, was charged with two counts of possession of controlled substance, and single counts of willful wanton disregard of safety on streets, compliance with lawful order of police officer fleeing, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, driving under suspension, illegal use of food stamps, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

At 12:30 a.m., March 6, two deputies on patrol in Elyria Township and saw a vehicle that matched the description of one involved in a pursuit earlier with the Lorain Police Department, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to pull the driver over, which resulted in another pursuit.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, the release stated.

Deputies searched the area where Capers had fled on foot and located a baggie containing a large amount of suspected crack cocaine, a second baggie containing a small amount of loose suspected crack cocaine, and two separate baggies of suspected powder cocaine, the release stated. Capers also possessed an Electronic Benefits Transfer card which allows access to an electronic system that allows qualified recipients to access the state-wide program called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The card didn’t belong to Capers and he was charged with having it in his possession as well, the release stated.

Capers was transported to the Lorain County Jail and lodged on a $296,450 bond.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing March 18 in Elyria Municipal Court.
