Calder Jessen, a Digital Media Arts senior at Lorain County JVS from Columbia, has had his artwork selected for the 54th Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. His movie poster design for the short film “Everyone Knows” was chosen among thousands of entries to be showcased at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus, according to a release from JVS.

Out of 8,113 submissions, Jessen’s poster made it to the State Exhibition where only 319 pieces were selected. Now, his artwork will be on display at the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce from April 21 to May 16.

This special display, called a “cameo” exhibition, highlights the remarkable talents of high school students like Jessen. Visitors to the Department of Education will have the opportunity to admire and appreciate his creativity daily, the release stated.

Greg Wing, LCJVS Digital Media Arts instructor, shared his excitement for his student’s success saying in the release, “The first time I saw the design on his computer screen it stopped me in my tracks. It was designed to promote a short film that he and his classmates had just completed, and it perfectly captures the essence of the film. To see it getting recognized at this level is incredible. It has been a pleasure having Calder as a student in my class, and I look forward to seeing where he goes from here.”

This juried exhibition is comprised of creative expressions in the visual arts created by outstanding and talented students from Ohio’s high schools. The exhibition is a cooperative effort between the Governor of Ohio, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, and the Ohio Arts Council as well as many colleges, universities, and business sponsors, according to the release.
