Geauga County seniors honored

-

Geauga County Department on Aging Senior of the Year has been announced.

The recipient is Norm Traffis, who has upheld a multitude of roles on numerous occasions including being a member of the West Geauga Senior Center Program Board, taking part on the “Shake, Rattle & Run” and “Run4theAges” 5K Run/1 Mile Walk committees.

Other activities he’s involved with include cooking pancakes for West Geauga Senior Center events and working on the 60’s Birthday Party planning committee.

Traffis enjoys supporting and being a part of the West Geauga Senior Center and Department on Aging activities, programs and events.

He is a regular participant in the morning exercise sessions for the past seven years, and fills in leading the class.

The Rose Motley Senior Advocate of the Year is Frederick H. Green.

Green, an attorney, is willing to visit seniors and help with any issue that involves them needing a guardian or POA.

Due to lack of family or support, he helps Geauga seniors by becoming their guardian or POA and assists the clients with financial and health care decisions.

Green has explained what being a Guardian takes.

“It’s dedication and time,” he said.

The Volunteer of the Year is Vi Katic.

For over 16 years, Vi can be found weekday mornings in the kitchen of the Chardon Senior Center preparing coffee, plates of pastries and fruit for the seniors arrival, and packing the refrigerated portion of the Home Delivered Meals.

Once she has completed her early morning duties, Katic wastes no time and moves on to packing the hot portion of the meal, packing the meals into the home-delivered coolers, cleaning the coolers and cleaning the kitchen.

She is always happy to help with other projects around the senior center, newsletter folding, special events and more.

The Senior Supporter of the Year is Bobby Ray Seagraves. He was honored for his love and willingness to help people, especially senior citizens.

The Aging Home Delivered Meal Volunteer of the year is Kate Greth.

Greth consistently drives a weekly meal route out of the Middlefield Senior Center and is always filing in to drive other routes during the week.
