NSDAR celebrates 125 years of service
The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) celebrated 125 years of community service on Oct. 11.
To celebrate 125 years of service, the New Connecticut Chapter located in Painesville served 139 plates of homemade pioneer beef stew, cornbread, salad and desserts to those in need at St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Painesville.
New Connecticut Chapter is celebrating a milestone of its own — 118 years as a chapter.
“The organization was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism,” according to the DAR website.
“These timeless, overarching principles keep the DAR strong and vitally relevant in this everchanging world.”
This nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education consists of nearly 177,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the world.
These vibrant, active women are the heart of the organization.”
Membership in the DAR is open to any female over 18 who can document her lineage to anyone who aided the cause of the American Revolution.
