Outlook: defense

The Spartans’ defense will use a 4-3 scheme, and with their team’s size up front, it’s a wise move by the coaching staff. It starts with Kenneth Townsend, who’s also the left tackle on offense. The senior checks in at 6-foot-2, 265 pounds and will be physical on both sides. At linebacker, McKinley will be the leader of the group as a senior. Trevon Scott is a sophomore but is 235 pounds. Mevline Hamilton is another sophomore but more athletic at 5-10, 170. Mills and senior Brendon Booker will lead the defensive backs. Jitters could be concern for the defense early in the season.
