Since early July, the latest signs of the South Pointe on the River development in Fairport Harbor Village have been gracing the fence line just south of the Fairport Senior Center.

They signal the next step in making a new, 21-home neighborhood a reality along the Grand River on the south side of town, officials confirm.

“It’s exciting for the village to have all these new building propositions. There are going to be more people in town and, with that, an opportunity for new businesses, too,” said Fairport Harbor Village Administrator Rebecca Corrigan in her office Aug. 23. “Fairport is definitely a destination. If you’re a lover of the beach, of the water; if you’re into boating or even just love to come to the beach — it’s a great place to be.”

Corrigan said the South Pointe on the River development just got re-approved in May to continue on in its quest to make plans for the riverfront housing development a reality.

The project, which was approved in 2014, needed to re-apply for approval because its official go-ahead

only lasted a year, Corrigan said. She added that some regulatory concerns regarding its use of roughly 2.97 acres of the Grand River played into the delay.

It’s up and running again, though, and a representative from Knez Homes, the site’s builder, said those interested in one of the 21 single-family homes planned for the development are welcome to call for more information. “At this point, we’d take any interested party’s name, phone number and email address and, as we get the brochures and floor plans printed, we’d provide those to them,” said Carol Nagel, Knez’s sales manager for the development.

Nagel said the development got held up because of its proximity to the Grand River and the need to ensure regulatory compliance with all the governmental entities involved, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other federal, state and local organizations.

“It can’t happen fast enough,” she said in an Aug. 23 phone interview. “But we have to do it right. That’s the big thing.”

Nagel confirmed that each home will now have its own dockage on the Grand River, adding that the project will likely get underway next spring, at the earliest.

“At this point, we’d take any interested party’s name, phone number and email address and, as we get the brochures and floor plans printed, we’d provide those to them.”
