The lowdown

North beat Riverside, 10-8, at Nick Carter Stadium on Sept 23. The Rangers, who came into the game with two losses, pushed out to a 10-0 lead over the Beavers in the first half.

Riverside then closed out the first half with a drive that started on its 35 and drove all the way to the 15-yard line, aided by a pass interference call and a facemask call but with less than two seconds on the clock, it failed to convert.

On its first possession in the third quarter, Riverside drove 80 yards for a touchdown and converted for two points, but in spite of several strong drives and good field position, were unable to score again.

Subsequent drives started on the 43-yard and 29-yard line.

Riverside had 263 yards of offense to North’s 226.

They said it

NORTH COACH SHAWN DODD >> “Coach Bickel did a great job with the defense,” said North coach Shawn Dodd. “We called some of the guys out and told them they had to step up their game. I am proud of these guys. They protected the ball and managed the game well.” NORTH QUARTERBACK JAKE TANSKI >> “My approach to this game was to take a deep breath, calm myself and calm my offensive line. Managing the game and protecting the ball was a huge emphasis this week, but we didn’t prepare any differently than usual. We come into these games expecting to win, even tough games like this.” RIVERSIDE COACH DAVE BORS >> “Look, I hate to lose but, this type of game, against a good team, exposes some of the weaknesses we need to address,” he said. “There are small details, where we need to be perfect and our guys get that. But give North credi. They played a great game. Our team played well, and we will get better.”
