Sushi, pizza, farm-to-table and corned beef on tap

Now that March is a reality, the month when spring begins and offers up pancake breakfasts, Irish food and many less frequently seen options.

Learn the basics of making sushi and pairing it with adult beverages in a three-session workshop at the Cabin of Willowick. The series takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, starting March 9, when the pairing will be with beer, and continuing March 16, with wine pairing, and March 23, with sake. Led by sushi chef Carmen Paponetti, the workshop is designed to help you discover how to wrap and roll vinegared rice with slices of raw tuna, salmon, eel and shrimp. Fine Arts

Enjoy an Irish-style lunch of corned beef brisket, buttered cabbage, parsleyed redskin potatoes and carrot cake at the March 8 edition of the Second Wednesday Luncheon Series, when musical artist Jessica Cope Miller presents “My Favorite Things” for the Women’s Committee of the Fine Arts.

Farm-to-table

A Farm-to-Table event from the Geauga Fresh Farmers Market will be hosted March 18 at Lowe’s Greenhouse in Bainbridge Township, where its Saturday market prevails in winter.

Soup made from products available at the market will be among the tastes visitors will discover from 9 a.m. to noon at 16540 Chillicoth­e Road. Steve Corso from Bat Barn Farm and Foraging in Chardon will talk about local foods, while Geauga Family Farms and Sirna’s Farm and Market will provide informatio­n about how their community -supported-agricultur­e programs provide a basket of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables throughout the summer. Those raising and making beef, freerange poultry and eggs, pork, fresh and dried herbs, microgreen­s, apples, apple cider, jam, honey, maple syrup, mushrooms, small-batch coffee, gluten-free mixes and winter vegetables also will be on hand.

Perfect pizza

Learn to make perfect pizza with chef Vytauras Sasnauskas at 6 p.m. March 15 at the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking in Chester Township. Sasnauskas is the genius behind Citizen Pie, the Collinwood neighborho­od pizza shop that has attracted so much attention of late.

Pancakes

Pancake breakfasts will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m every Sunday in March at Century Village in Burton. Pure maple syrup made with traditiona­l techniques from the Geauga County Historical Society’s own sugarbush will be used. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
