Auburn Career Center appoints superintendent
The Auburn Joint Vocational School District Board announced the appointment of Brian Bontempo as the new superintendent of the Auburn Career Center, effective March 22.
Bontempo replaces Margaret T. Lynch, a 15-year Auburn Career Center administrator, in the new position. Lynch will continue to serve as a career center consultant, providing a smooth transition for the new superintendent and administrative team.
According to an Auburn Career Center news release, Bontempo has served as the superintendent of the Lake County Educational Service Center since 2009
and will also maintain the position. The Educational Service Center is located on Auburn Career Center’s campus at 8140 Auburn in Concord Township.
“Dr. Bontempo’s dual superintendent roles provide us with a unique opportunity to reduce costs through shared services and utilize taxpayer dollars in an efficient manner with focus on students and programs,” said Erik Walter, president of Auburn board.
“The treasurer’s office has utilized this shared services model for approximately three years with great success. In addition to his extensive experience, he has strong roots in our community. He is an established leader in education with a strong knowledge of curriculum and program development. We believe that he will carry on the tradition of success that Auburn Career Center prides itself on.”
In addition to his superintendent experience, Bontempo has 27 years of education experience and early in his career he was a vocational teacher, later serving as principal of Willoughby South High School. He is the past recipient of the Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year Award and John Carroll University Alumni of the Year, the release stated.
Bontempo was the Ohio ESC Association president and is currently the chair of the Lake County Schools Healthcare Consortium. He holds a bachelor’s in business education, a master’s in computer education, a master’s in school administration
and a doctorate in educational leadership. He also holds Ohio licenses as superintendent, treasurer and K-12 principal.
Bontempo said he’s honored to be chosen for the new role.
“I look forward to the opportunity to build on business partnerships and explore additional opportunities for students in our associate school districts, adult workforce education and the communities we serve.”
Dr. Bontempo and his wife, Lisa, reside in South Russell Village and have twin boys enrolled at Miami University.
