Man accused in kidnapping in custody

The man accused of threatenin­g his girlfriend and driving off with her kids has turned himself into police.

The man accused of threatenin­g his girlfriend with a gun, driving off with her two children and prompting an Amber Alert on April 4 has turned himself in to authoritie­s, Willoughby Hills police report.

A news release shows Clarence Davis turned himself in about 11 a.m. April 6.

Police confirmed April 4 that Davis’ girlfriend summoned officers to the 27600 block of Chardon Road about 8:20 a.m. that day and told them Davis threatened her with a gun and took her car. The woman’s 3-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were in the car, as well, she told police.

Later that day, police reported the two children were located and their safety confirmed. But Davis was still at large.

Cleveland police located the blue 2014 Hyundai Sonata belonging to Davis’ girlfriend in the 2600 block of West 14th Street, then turned the vehicle over to the Willoughby Hills Police Department for investigat­ion.

At his arraignmen­t April 6, Davis was charged with two third-degree felony abduction counts, according to Willoughby Municipal Court records. He’s being held on a $50,000 cash/ surety bond and has a preliminar­y hearing scheduled April 12.

If convicted of both counts, Davis could get up to six years behind bars.

The investigat­ion into the April 4 incident is ongoing.
