The Browns are seriously contemplating using the first pick of the draft on Mitchell Trubisky, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A story that broke on the morning of April 12 reported an unnamed league source told Schefter the Browns are apparently choosing between Trubisky, the quarterback from Mentor High School and the University of North Carolina, and Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett.

The story quotes an unnamed league executive saying “Don’t be surprised if Myles Garrett isn’t the No. 1 pick.”

The Browns pick first and 12th in the first round of the draft on April 27.

Garrett is regarded as the best player in the draft by most analysts, but the Browns need a quarterback, too, and most experts believe Trubisky will be picked before the Browns get the chance to make the 12th selection.

The San Francisco 49ers, picking second, and the Jets, picking sixth, also need a quarterback for the future.

Forty-niners head coach Kyle Shanahan and his quarterbacks coach, Rich Scangarello, flew to North Carolina on April 6 to work out Trubisky. He is the only quarterback Shanahan has worked out personally, according to Schefter.

The Browns worked out Trubisky at their team facility in Berea on March 31. They also have had private workouts with the other top quarterbacks in the draft — Deshaun Watson of Clemson, DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame and Patrick Mahomes from Texas A&M. They also have had a private workout with Garrett.
