Pair face burglary, robbery charges following standoff
Two Painesville men stand accused of a breakin attempt that triggered a SWAT-involved standoff in a neighborhood there early Easter Sunday, according to Painesville police.
Dispatchers sent officers to a residence in the 200 block of Jefferson Street at 4:09 a.m. to respond to a burglary in progress, a Painesville Police Department media release confirms.
“The victim advised dispatch that unknown persons were attempting to force their way into
her residence,” Painesville police report.
The two men weren’t able to break into the home at first, according to the release, and the woman who made the 911 call from inside the home was able to escape, allowing police to move her out of the area.
Police report she said one of the men had a handgun.
“Officers quickly arrived and, based on the quickness of their response, they took away any escape route for the suspects, effectively keeping them inside the residence,” said Painesville Police Department Chief Anthony Powalie.
Multiple attempts were
made by police to contact the two burglars, who wound up gaining entry into the residence between the time the woman there called for help and the time police opted to call in special weapons and tactics team members. At that point, SWAT team members entered the residence and, without incident, took two men into custody, Painesville police report.
Arrested were 21-yearold Kysean C. Lee and 24-year-old Marshaun Ligon.
Each is charged with aggravated
burglary and aggravated robbery and is being held on a $250,000 cash bond, Painesville police report.
No injuries resulted from the incident, according to Powalie, who expressed his appreciation to all involved in bringing the incident to a peaceful conclusion.
“I would like to publicly thank the Lake County SWAT team, Wickliffe Fire (Department), Fairport Harbor (Police Department) and all the officers that assisted in this investigation,” Powalie said.
