Degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for dean’s list if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete”, “D” or “F”; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.
Area residents perform in concert
The University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble recently performed “Those Roaring Twenties.”
The annual winter pops concert was directed by Jack Taylor, University director of bands and music professor. Local students include: • Krystle Koch of Eastlake

Mentor resident named to dean’s list
Michelle D. Crough, a resident of Mentor, has recently been named to the Dean’s List at Boston University for the Fall semester.
Each school and college at Boston University has their own criterion for the Dean’s List, but students generally must attain a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as a full course load as a full-time student.
Local residents earn degrees from WGU
The following local residents have received their degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The university held its 32nd semi-annual commencement ceremony at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando on Feb. 11 and celebrated the graduation of more than 11,000 graduates.

• Gloria Hobi of Mentor has received her Master of Education in Learning and Technology
• Jacqueline Womack of Mentor has received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing

• Joseph DeSantis of Willoughby has received his Bachelor of Science in IT - Security Emphasis

Eastlake resident named to dean’s list
Katarzyna Bieniek, a resident of Eastlake, has recently been named to the Dean’s List at Boston University for the Fall semester.

Madison resident graduates from OSU
Jesse Rutter, of Madison, graduated from The Ohio State University in December with a Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering.
He is the son of Harold Rutter, of Madison, and a graduate of Madison Senior High School.
The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.
• Amanda Lausin of Geneva was initiated at The University of Findlay
• Flavio Ajdinaj of Willoughby was initiated at The University of Findlay
• Nicole Babiak of Novelty was initiated at The University of Findlay.
Willoughby resident named to dean’s list
Christopher Black, of Willoughby, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall Semester at Cleveland State University.
Black is the son of Dave and Cindy Black and a 2011 graduate of South High School in Willoughby.

Local students spend fall abroad
Students from our area were among 18 Baldwin Wallace University students who spent the fall 2016 semester away from BW learning in another country.
With support from the BW Study Abroad Center’s Independent Study program, students created individualized immersion experiences in Austria, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, Sweden and Switzerland.
The following local students participated:
• Jonathan Loya, of Cleveland , a graduate of Charles F. Brush High School majoring in music theatre, traveled to Moscow, Russia and studied at the National Theater Institute.
• Emily Russell, of Mentor, a graduate of Mentor High School majoring in music education, traveled to Dublin, Ireland and studied at University College Dublin.
Madison resident joins Running Club
Taryn Doyle of Madison, is a member of the Running Club at Ashland University.
Doyle is majoring in nursing and a 2016 graduate of Madison High School.
