Performing arts is a subject that Lake Erie College Vice President of Academic Affairs Bryan W. DePoy feels very strongly about.

DePoy who also serves as the chief academic officer, holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate in music.

“The arts provide an enhanced quality of life, enrich local amenities, and play an important role in attracting young professionals to an area,” he said. “Coupled with the fact that many communities nationwide are looking to the arts as a means of revitalizing their downtowns, a vibrant performing arts series at Lake Erie College has a multitude of benefits.

“Also, such an initiative aligns with Lake Erie College’s efforts to rebrand itself in such a way that it is an attractant to high-aptitude students who value such performance opportunities and experiences.”

Lake Erie College kicked off the 2017 Performing Arts Series with a concert by Cleveland’s renowned baroque orchestra Apollo’s Fire in February.

DePoy will showcase his musical talents at one of the upcoming concerts on April 29. He will

perform as a guest soloist for the Brass Band of the Western Reserve at 5 p.m.

All of the concerts in the series are held at the Helen Rockwell Morley Memorial Music Building.

Everyone is invited to attend and tickets for the event can be purchased at www.lec.edu/PAS.

DePoy said Lake Erie College has a unique and important role to play in serving as an arts and culture hub for the region.

“We are also striving to use our Performing Arts Series as a means to support the local economy,” he said. “The arts are good for local businesses. In addition, the role of a college or university is increasingly recognized as having a critical part in attracting and retaining businesses and employees. Acknowledging this trend, the National Association of Governors determined that, ‘the arts are an important complement to community development. They provide an enhanced quality of life, enrich local amenities, and play an important role in attracting young professionals to an area’.”

Lake Erie College President Bryan Posler said the arts have a long and storied past at the college.

“We seek to ensure that the arts are a strong and prominent part of its future,” he said.
