Mentor Public School District’s Brentmoor Elementary School has been selected by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) as a 2017 Hall of Fame School.

The Hall of Fame School award recognized schools that engage faculty, students and the community to provide a quality school experience,” according to a media release from OAESA. “The school staff submitted an extensive application documenting the effectiveness of their education program in several areas.”

Schools chosen for the award are selected by two committees made up of members from the OAESA, one which reads the applications and the other which conducts the on-site evaluations.

According to the media release, committee members wrote “Brentmoor Elementary provides a nurturing culture for students to learn and grow. Students are grouped into four “houses” that embrace the pillars of character to support one another. These multi-age groups along with service teams such as Kids Care and clubs like Robotics Club, assure that research-based practices provide quality instruction that meets the needs of all learners... Innovative practices help student to be creative problem solvers and transfer knowledge across disciplines.”

Lake Elementary school is the only other school in Mentor Public Schools to be issued this award, according to Mentor Public School District’s Communication Director Kristen Kirby.

An award notification was sent to Brentmoor’s Principal, Pam Hutto, along with a $1,000 check to be used for the school, staff or students at her discretion.

The official award will be presented during an awards luncheon at the OAESA conference in Columbus June 17.

OAESA committee members noted Brentmoor’s mission according to the media release.

“Their mission “Together We Learn for a Better Tomorrow” connects students, faculty, parents and the community as stakeholders in a culture with kids at the center. Brentmoor is truly deserving of the designation of a Hall of Fame School.”

“Our entire district is very proud of Brentmoor Elementary for being a recipient of the 2017 OAESA Hall of Fame award,” said Assistant Superintendent William Porter. “In recent years they have achieved tremendous academic progress, and the students and staff have promoted a culture of kindness and involvement. Brentmoor is extremely deserving of this award.”
