Chipotle to give swag to first 100 visitors to new location

A free Chipotle-insignia bag will go to the first 100 folks who come to the April 27 opening of a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Euclid near the Shore Center Shopping Center.

At 22250 Lake Shore Blvd., the restaurant will be open from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Kitchen tricks

Learn tips and tricks in the kitchen from chef William Davis in a class at 6 p.m. May 1 at the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking in Chester Township.

Knife skills will be taught as the hands-on class makes Garden Vegetable Slaw, while bread techniques will be learned making Grilled Flatbread Pizza. Make Smoked Chicken Corn Chowder and learn about soups, and about entree compositio­n during the creation of Lemon Artichoke Chicken with Tea Steamed Rice Pilaf. Find out about desserts while making Chocolate Peanut Butter Crème Brulee.

Victorian gardening

Victorian-era gardening will be the topic for speaker Phillip Iannarelli at the Victorian Tea set for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. April 30 in the Culinary Bistro at Shore Cultural Centre, 291 E. 222nd St. in Euclid.

Garden writer and garden designer Iannarelli said gardening became popular when people had more time in the Victorian era. He is working on a book about Cleveland’s great estate gardens of 1912 to 1935.

The tea, which will include a variety of salads and sandwiches, also will have raffles and prizes. Attendees are encouraged to wear special hats and to bring favorite tea cups. Tickets, at $25, may be purchased at shorecultu­ralcentre.com.

Farmers’ market

The long-awaited 2017 opening of the Geauga Fresh Farmers Market is just a week away, at 9 a.m. May 6 in the parking lot of the South Russell Village Hall, at Chillicoth­e Road and Bell Street. It will run until noon every Saturday until October.

Those who come will receive a compliment­ary BlueCrop blueberry plant donated by Hawthorne Springs Greenhouse in Burton — while supplies last. Two drawings and free balloons will add to the festivitie­s. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, opening day will feature hanging baskets, flower and vegetable seedlings, herbs and other plantings, fresh baked goods, coffee, fresh spring produce, jams and jellies, honey and maple syrup, herbs and greens, spices and sauces, as well as soaps and lotions, mushrooms and meats, fresh eggs, garlic and hand-made crafts. Master Gardeners from the Ohio State University Extension Service will be on hand to provide demonstrat­ions, to answer questions about growing seedlings and vegetables, and to answer other plant questions.

Geneva-on-the Lake

The Geneva-on-the-Lake KickOff Parade will serve to open the fabled Strip at 1 p.m. May 13.

The next day, the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake will have its Mother’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Diners can take in the lake view from the dining room as they feast on fresh spring fare.
