Garrett targeting Roethlisberger

The Browns’ season opener with the Steelers is 137 days away, and as far as Myles Garrett is concerned it can’t get here soon enough.

Garrett dominated the scene April 28 when he, safety Jabrill Peppers and tight David Njoku met with the media at Browns headquarters in Berea a day after being taken in the first round of the 2017 draft. It is the first time in franchise history the Browns picked three times in the first round.

Garrett plans to dominate from the first whistle of training camp, just as the 6-foot-5 defensive end dominated all the hype before the Browns made him the first pick in the draft. So it should come as no surprise he plans to leave an impression on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger by making him his first sack in his first regular season game at FirstEnergy Stadium.

“He’s my first target,” Garrett said. “I’ve been watching him for a very long time growing up. I finally get to face him and scheme against him and his left tackle and the whole O line. I know what I’m going up against.”

Garrett was nicknamed “Batman” because his muscular upper body with his defined six-pack, pectorals, shoulders and biceps looks like Batman’s costume. He also has carried “Superman” and “Flash” as nicknames.

He might need them to reach his goals; he wants to break the rookie record of 14.5 sacks set by Jevon Kearse in 1999 when he was with the Titans. He said he wants to be in the top 10 in career sacks when he retires 10 or 12 years from now.

Browns add DT

The Browns used their third-round pick in defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, 6-foot-3, 305 pounds, from UNC-Charlotte. He is the first player drafted from that school.

On tap April 29

The Browns have five picks on the final day of the draft. Three are in the fifth round (145, 175 and 181) Picks 185 and 188 are in the sixth round.
