Mother-Daughter Banquet: The Mother-Daughter Banquet at the Central Congregati­onal Church, 71 Park St. in Madison, will be 6:30 p.m., May 17. Nia Covington, a Northern Ohio vocalist will entertain, performing; standards, pop, and classics. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door.

Rummage sale: Hope Ridge United Methodist Church, 9870 Johnnycake Ridge Road in Concord Township, will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ($1 admission), June 2 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (free admission) June 3. The sale includes household items, toys, sporting goods, all types of clothing, and returning this year, a special room of collectibl­es, antiques, and unique items. Lunch will be available. The sale is sponsored by the United Methodist Women. Proceeds will be used for charity projects and church activities. Call the church office at 440-352-2141 for more informatio­n.

Blessing of animals: Memorial Day weekend, creatures of all shapes and sizes are welcomed to join in worship at Old South Church, 9802 Chillicoth­e Road, Kirtland, at 10 a.m., May 28. The worship service that morning will center on the blessing of animals. Pet owners do not need to be a member of the church to bring a pet for a blessing during the service. During the service, not only will pets be blessed but the wild animals will receive attention as well since the service will be outside in the church’s outdoor worship space. From Memorial Day until Labor Day, weather permitting, the worship at Old South moves outside to the Dell, an amphitheat­er with bench seating that offers a vista on the beauty of the ravine behind the church. If the weather prevents being outside, worship will move inside, but the blessing of the animals will move to June 18. Informatio­nal Coffee: The Christ Child Society of the Western Reserve is looking for “Caring Christian Women” to attend an Informatio­nal Coffee at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 in the St. Gabriel’s Church community room in Concord Township. The event is open to women of faith and who want an opportunit­y to broaden friendship­s while serving the needs of the children of Lake County. Registrati­on is required. National Day of Prayer in Chardon: National Day of Prayer will be observed at noon, May 4, at the Chardon Square Gazebo, and the public is invited to celebrate. This brief gathering of 15 minutes or so is sponsored by the Chardon Ministeria­l Associatio­n which joins with other faithful across the country meeting at the same time to address national concerns through communal prayer. Prayers from those unable to attend will be gratefully appreciate­d.

Men’s event: The men’s ministry of Crossroads Community Church in Madison will host an event on May 4 called “A Men’s Night of Rock Solid Faith.“The event is being hosted in coordinati­on with the National Day of Prayer the same day. The evening will include breakfast for dinner with a breakfast buffet of biscuits and gravy, sausage, egg-cheese casserole, scrambled eggs, fruit cups with whipped cream and cinnamon rolls. The featured speaker will be Wayne Morgret, the Northeast Ohio director of Man in the Mirror Ministries. There will also be a special challenge video presented to the men in attendance and prayers for the men of Northeast Ohio. The event will be at Crossroads Community Church, 6685 Middle Ridge Road, Madison. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 donation and are available at Crossroads Community Church and online at www.madisoncro­ssroads.org. Movie time: The WELL, Willoughby House of Prayer, at 3091 Erie St., Willoughby, invites the public to watch the movie, “Song of Bernadette.” It will be shown at 3:30 p.m. May 6. Snacks will be provided. For details, call 942-5966.

Golf outing: Bethel Lutheran Church in Willowick, will host the seventh annual Bethel Outreach Golf Outing on June 16, at the Briardale Greens Golf Course in Euclid. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and will be a fourperson scramble format. All proceeds from the tournament will go to directly to support local programs in our community. These programs include the Willowick Food Pantry and Willowick youth sports. Golfers of any skill-level are invited to participat­e in the Tournament. Players may register as a foursome, but golfers who register individual­ly or in groups less than four will be combined to complete a foursome wherever possible. The $75/person entry fee covers: 18 holes of golf with cart, free range balls prior to the start of your round, gift bag for each golfer, coffee and donuts in the morning, hot dogs, chips, and beer at the turn, dinner that includes both ribs and chicken following your round, one raffle ticket entering you into the drawing for the door prize. Also planned are a 50⁄50 Drawing, Gift Raffle, Hole-in-One Contest and other optional special events throughout the course. The Tournament Committee is also currently seeking corporate sponsors, hole sponsors, as well as gifts and prizes for the raffle.
