“There is power in prayer. We’ve had many answered prayers and seen many miracles.” — Darlene Dryer, ministry director of Willoughby House of Prayer — The Well

Area churches, organizations, government officials and residents came together for National Day of Prayer at Willoughby United Methodist Church on May 4.

The event focused on four core areas: government, military, church and family. Pastors from various local churches facilitated the prayer while members of the community joined in.

There were musical selections accompanied by Scriptures from the Bible.

The Willoughby House of Prayer — The Well participated in the event at Willoughby United Methodist Church and

offered prayer throughout the day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Well is a Christ-centered, Bible-based, peoplefocused, multi -church prayer ministry.

Darlene Dryer, the ministry director, said everyone is welcome, regardless of church or denomination.

Over 12 churches are involved.

The Well, located at 4091 Erie St. in downtown Willoughby, offers daily prayer opportunities.

Dryer often visits and prays for local merchants and community members. They have several large prayer boards, where dozens of prayer requests are written.

“We also have a prayer board outside for people who are walking by that do not want to come in,” she said. “There is power in prayer. We’ve had many answered prayers and seen many miracles.”

Willoughby was one of many communities across the nation that participated in the 66th annual National Day of Prayer.

People around the country were encouraged to pray for media, business, education, government, military, church and family.

A National Day of Prayer Task Force was developed to encourage participation in this annual national observance. Its mission is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture. This year’s theme, “For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us ...Forgive Us ...Heal Us!” was inspired by biblical text from Daniel 9:19.
