(1) WARREN CHAMPION VS. (2) HAWKEN

What: Division III LaBrae District final Where: 1001 North Leavitt, Leavittsburg When: May 17, 4:30 Records: Warren Champion 21-3, Hawken 21-4 For the record: Champion presents a worthy opponent for the Hawks, who have looked formidable all season long. Champion played Division II Euclid District champion Chagrin Falls to within a run in extra innings. Hawken fell behind early to Grand Valley before the Hawks pulled out a 6-5 victory. If their hard-hitting offense puts Hawken’s solid pitching staff ahead early, the Hawks have an excellent chance to beat the state’s No. 2-ranked team. Barnes’ pick: Hawken

(3) KIRTLAND VS. (4) LUTHERAN WEST

What: Division III Lakewood District final

Where: 14100 Franklin Blvd., Lakewood When: May 17, 4:30

Records: Kirtland 15-8, Lutheran West 19-2

For the record: Lutheran West pulled off the upset of Elyria Catholic, D-III’s No. 4-ranked team. The Longhorns present a staunch foe for Kirtland, which narrowly avoided an upset to Wickliffe. The teams have a common opponent in Gilmour, with the Hornets falling to the Lancers last month. Lutheran West defeated Gilmour, 3-0, in a sectional final last week. Barnes’ pick: Lutheran West

(2) VIENNA MATHEWS VS. (3) FAIRPORT

What: Division IV Fairport District semifinal Where: Fairport When: May 17, 1 p.m. Record: Fairport 13-15 For the record: Had Caleb Hites been healthy the entire season, there’s a good chance Fairport would be a higher seed in its bracket. Undeniably, the Skippers’ ability to play their district-level games on their home field is an advantage. Barnes’ pick: Fairport
